Marymere Waterfall, Washington, USA: One of the many by Prakash Bang, Editor in Chief ![]() The Olympic Peninsula is famous for its many waterfall trails. The official map lists 24 waterfalls and Marymere happens to be the one from the 2-dozen basket. ![]() Lake Crescent is known for its brilliant blue waters and exceptional clarity, caused by a lack of nitrogen in the water which inhibits the growth of algae. It is located in a popular recreational area which is home to a number of trails, including the Spruce Railroad Trail, Pyramid Mountain trail, and the Barnes Creek trail to Marymere Falls. The Spruce Railroad Trail follows the grade of what was once the tracks of a logging railroad along the shores of the lake. Following this trail on the north side of the lake, one can find the entrance to an old railroad tunnel as well as "Devil’s Punch Bowl", a popular swimming and diving area. Given the time on hand and our group's limited energy levels, we restricted our hike to 90 minutes. About a mile walk, through the rain forest, negotiating big & old spruce trees, ferns, moss and other neat stuff along the way we reached Marymere Waterfall. The waterfall is a 90-feet drop in a small plunge pool below. At 1 PM we were back on our bus to go to Forks. Marymere Waterfall Image Gallery ![]()
